The Tokyo Korea Town Festival, commemorating the 60th anniversary of Korea-Japan diplomatic normalization, will be held on October 12–13 at Nishi-Okubo Park and Okubo Street in Shinjuku.
The festival is jointly organized by Korean community groups in Japan, including the Korean Residents Association in Tokyo, the Korean Merchants Association of Shinjuku, and the Korean Students Union in Japan. It is supported by the Overseas Koreans Agency, the Embassy of the Republic of Korea in Japan, and Shinjuku Ward.
The opening ceremony on October 12 at 11 a.m. will feature a Taekwondo demonstration and Gayageum performance, followed by hands-on programs such as kimchi-making, K-pop performances, traditional Korean music and dance, and sports demonstrations.
On October 13, events will continue with kimchi-making sessions for elementary students, traditional Korean games, and more K-pop performances. The festival will conclude at 4 p.m. with a closing ceremony and prize drawing.
Organizers expressed their hope that the festival will “strengthen solidarity within the Korean community in Japan and promote friendship and cultural exchange with the local Japanese community.”
